Hi readers!
Are you found of eating McDonald’s burgers? If yes, please be care full.
Nicoletta Lanese: a health channel editor at Live Science has reported on October 23rd, 2024, that nearly
50 people got ill, and one died due to infection caused by a bacterium Escherichia coli (seen in the picture above), commonly called E.coli which is linked to McDonald’s quarter pounders.
For details, please visit the following website
It is suspected that either the onions or the beef in the quarter pounders were the source of E.coli that has been reported in 10 states of USA and has so far sickened nearly 50 people of which one has already expired.
Health officials in USA are investigating and suspected that either the onions or the beef in the quarter pounder is the cause of infection but it is not yet confirmed.
The bacterium E.coli is found in the guts of healthy people and warm-blooded animals and some of them, especially E. coli O157:H7 which has been detected in quarter pounder can make people sick. This type can cause severe intestinal infection due to release of a toxin which damage the lining of the intestine and thereby causing bloody diarrhea.
Symptoms appear after 2-5 days of the consumption of infected food and can last about 5-7 days. It starts with abdominal cramps, vomiting, dehydration, fever, diarrhea with or without blood in it, fatigue and nausea. In approximately 8% of cases, it can lead to hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) which damage the blood cells and the kidneys and can lead to kidneys failure and finally to death. Children and older people face the highest risk of HUS from E. coli infections.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported on October, 22nd 2024, that so far, forty-nine illnesses have been linked to the ongoing outbreak, including 10 hospitalizations and one death. Colorado has reported 26 cases, and Nebraska 9. Montana, Oregon, Wyoming, Utah, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin have also reported the sickness.
Interview of all the sick people revealed that they all have eaten at McDonald’s before they fall sick. Some specifically mentioned that they have eaten quarter pounder hamburger before their illness.
Slivered onions (a long slender piece cut off from onion) used on the burgers are likely source of contamination said the Health officials while beef patties are also being investigated.
Quarter pound beef patties are only used on Quarter Pounders, while fresh slivered onions are primarily used on Quarter Pounder hamburgers and on no other menu items.
Dear readers, I read this article the other day and have described it here for your information. I don’t know if quarter pounder is being sold at any of the McDonald outlets in Pakistan or not but if it does, please be careful if you visit McDonald’s especially with children and elderly people.
Please remember “Prevention is better than cure”.
See you next week. Take care, Bye.
